"Local Artistry" is a semi-monthly feature on Fashion Collective’s Arts section which curates works from the brightest of Toronto's creatives. Though this series strives to shine greater light on artists within the University of Toronto, the driving quality sought from these local artists are the mastery, innovativeness, and passion they have for their medium(s).

Jeannie Phan, a graduate of OCADU, is perhaps one of the most consistent and inspiring illustrators around. Her style is unique and approachable, and pairs well with her aptitude for conceptual editorial work. As a freelance, it is both incredible and unsurprising that her clients include many giants like the New York Times, National Post, and Reader’s Digest. She’s based in a tiny studio in “Toronto’s West End”, she prints her zines locally, and her cat’s name is Odin. Jeannie Phan’s art possesses an imaginative charm, with the capacity to not just lure a reader into an article - but to explain it to them a way that is both precise and whimsical.
